Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former skipper Misbah-ul-Haq as the head coach of the men’s national team across all the formats. The governing body has roped him for three years with immediate effect.

Besides, Misbah will also head the panel of selectors and PCB aims to bring accountability and clarity at all levels. The head coaches of all six first-class teams will work as Misbah’s deputy in the selection panel in the coming years.

Meanwhile, the role for the head coach was left vacant after PCB decided not to extend Mickey Arthur’s contract. Pakistan had a horrid outing in the World Cup bowing out from the group stages. Post that, PCB was looking to revamp their domestic cricket to ensure a proper supply line to the national team.

Misbah-ul Haq’s appointment at the helm of the Pakistan side is the first step towards their goal. The former cricketer was a unanimous decision of all the five five-member panel. The committee comprised of Intikhab Alam, Bazid Khan, Asad Ali Khan, Wasim Khan, and Zakir Khan.

On the other hand, former skipper Waqar Younis will work as the bowling coach alongside Misbah-ul-Haq. The panel availed his service of Waqar on the recommendation of the head coach. PCB chairman Ehsan Mani approved the decision to appoint both the former cricketers.

“It is very humbling for me to join a select group of some of the very best to have coached the Pakistan national sides in the past. It is an honour and more than that, a massive responsibility as we live and breathe cricket. I know expectations are high, but I am absolutely ready and up for the task,” Misbah said.

Misbah-ul-Haq’s first assignment will be the upcoming three ODI and three T20I home series against Sri Lanka starting from September 27.
