Out-of-favour Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad has found himself in the middle of another storm. The right-handed batsman has been charged for tampering with the ball while leading Central Punjab against Sindh in the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

The incident took place during the first innings of Sindh against Central Punjab at Iqbal Stadium Faisalabad on the second day of play between the two sides. Match referee Nadeem Arshad summoned Ahmed Shehzad but the decision is set to be announced on Friday. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the news on Thursday night on Twitter, writing:

“Central Punjab captain Ahmed Shehzad has been charged for changing the condition of the ball as per the non-identification process. Decision tomorrow.”

Ahmed Shehzad is likely to receive a fine of 50% of his match fees for trying to change the condition of the ball. The latest incident has further extended the batsman’s poor disciplinary records. Last year, he had received a four-month ban effective from July 10, 2018 for violating PCB’s anti-doping rules.

Ahmed Shehzad’s international career is pretty much off the track now. He was a part of Pakistan’s Champions Trophy-winning squad last year. However, things have not gone well as far as his personal performances are concerned. He last played an One-Day International during the home series against Sri Lanka in October 2017.

Shehzad, who arrived on the international stage in 2009 with a lot of hype, has failed to live up to the expectations.  One of the most consistent performers in the domestic circuit back then, the right-handed batsman was highly rated and was consistently compared to the likes of Virat Kohli, Joe Root and Kane Williamson. However, inconsistency has been his nemesis so far.

He was recently recalled for the T20I series against Sri Lanka at home but failed miserably. In two innings, he managed just 4 and 13. Consequently, he could not make it to the squad for the upcoming series in Australia. So far, he has represented Pakistan in just 13 Tests, 81 ODIs and 59 T20Is.

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
