Pakistan Cricket Fraternity Roots For Imran Khan as Country's Next Prime Minister

The whole of Pakistan cricket fraternity is rooting for 1992 World Cup-winning-skipper Imran Khan as country’s next Prime Minister. Pakistan will have its elections on July 25 (Wednesday. Therefore, the former players like Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, and Waqar Younis are hoping that their former captain emerges as an ultimate winner.

In fact, the former talismanic batsman Miandad guarantees that Imran is the best candidate for the top-brass post.

Meanwhile, both Miandad and Imran have spent a lot of time together. Therefore, Miandad knows the veteran Pakistan all-rounder from inside out.

“He is the best candidate for the post of Prime Minister right now. I can guarantee, nobody can match him. Others have been tried and tested before. It is Imran’s time now. Awaam (public) will be too foolish to ignore him,” Miandad, told India Today in an exclusive chat from Karachi.

Miandad added Pakistan is noticing Imran now. However, he went on to add the former all-rounder has been working hard towards the development of the country since the last 15-20 years.

Imran has also built the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Lahore, for the Pakistan public. In fact, he is building one more hospital in Karachi. Thus, Miandad added people will not forget his good deeds.

“People are now talking about him but he has been working so hard for the last 15-20 years. He should win now. I have full confidence that he will do great work for Pakistan. Everyone knows how he won the World Cup in 1992 but apart from cricket, his biggest achievement is the cancer hospital that he has built. I was with him when we were doing the fund-raising to build the hospital. From dawn to dusk, from the mosques to the markets, he went door-to-door asking for funds. Now the entire country has benefitted from the world-class facility and he is building another one in Karachi. People don’t forget this good work,” says Miandad.

Not only Miandad has extended his support to his friend, Imran Khan, but also Waqar Wasim also put their weight behind their former skipper to lead the county as its next Prime Minister.

“It was in your leadership skip that we became world champions in 1992. It is in your leadership that we can again become a great democratic country. Let’s vote for kaptaan (captain) for a Naya (new) Pakistan,” Akram had tweeted a few days ago.

“You have got what it takes skipper but it will take everything you have. No one can doubt your honesty and that’s what is required in our country, an honest leader. We are behind you skipper,” Younis said on Twitter.
