Days after receiving praise from the Indian fans, former Pakistan allrounder Abdul Razzaq has risked facing their ire after making a controversial statement in the wake of India’s loss to England. India, on Sunday, lost to England by 31 runs to suffer their first defeat of the ongoing World Cup. A win for India would have kept Pakistan on track for a semifinal spot.
However, with England winning the game, Pakistan do not have their destiny in their hands anymore. Even if Pakistan win their remaining one league game, they are not assured of a place in the last four. And unsurprisingly, people from the other side of the border have accused India on losing the game intentionally. Not only the fans, some former players have also questioned India’s approach during the game.

But Abdul Razzaq has perhaps crossed the fine line. The ex-cricketer, who was urging for a job from BCCI just a couple of days ago, has brought a religious angle to the defeat. Abdul Razzaq said that Mohammed Shami is a Muslim, he was the only Indian player who was trying hard on the field.
“Shami to hai bhi Musalman, Wo pura jor laga raha tha match main unlike other team members, (Translation- Since Shami is a Muslim, he was trying his best in the match unlike other team members) ” Abdul Razzaq told a local television channel.

Well, it seems like Abdul Razzaq only watched Mohammed Shami’s performance since he was the only Muslim player in the Indian team. The former Pakistan international must have missed India’s innings. After Shami’s five-wicket haul helped India put a check to scoring rate, Rohit Sharma’s century and Virat Kohli’s fifty put them in contention to chase down the huge total of 338.

But India lost wickets at crucial junctures and eventually finished on 306 for 5. Even after the defeat, India are at second spot in the points table. The Men in Blue need just one more point from their remaining two games to ensure a passage to the last four.
