It has been a disappointing journey for Australia’s Glenn Maxwell over the years as far as Test cricket is concerned. He had a rollercoaster ride in the international cricket by receiving the call-ups and getting to drop in the very next series. Meanwhile, he faced yet another axe from the Test squad.

Recently, Cricket Australia announced the 15-man squad for Pakistan Tests in which they gave a chance for five new players. Surprisingly, Aaron Finch is one big name in it. However, they showed the cold shoulder to Glenn Maxwell for the UAE tour.

I was wearing my baggy green cap for a shoot by the time I got removed – Glenn Maxwell

Speaking of the same, Glenn Maxwell in a faint smile quoted he was in a promotional shoot wearing the baggy green cap. Then, he received a call saying that he got ousted from the Australia team for the upcoming UAE tour.

The flamboyant all-rounder quoted he didn’t get any games to prove himself in the last couple of months to push for a place. He felt Cricket Australia wants to keep him fresh for the UAE tour but unfortunately, it wasn’t the case for Glenn Maxwell.

“I suppose the disappointment from my side is I didn’t get an opportunity to play any cricket over the last couple of months. I had a few offers to play county cricket in England and they were initially knocked back with an opportunity to go and play in India in the A series,” Glenn Maxwell said to Cricket.com.au.

“To get told not to play in the A series and have a rest, and I was understanding of that and their reasoning behind that … I was hoping that was a positive note to go to Dubai. But obviously, that wasn’t the case. Maybe a little bit. I feel like there were other guys who were able to get a full off-season of cricket into them and hit the ‘A’ series up and running or be able to put their names forward,” he added.

Test numbers didn’t fare well for Glenn Maxwell

Further, Glenn Maxwell revealed he was told to score more runs in order to get the call-up again. Maxwell failed to get the great numbers in his Test bag thus being on the wrong side of the things.

“The fact that my numbers at Test level don’t stand up over the last few years when I’ve been included. Now I just need to make more runs. Hopefully I can pile on enough runs this summer to keep pushing my case forward. I had a pretty good year last year so now I’ve just got to have another good year this year and hope selections go my way at some stage,” he inferred.

However, it needs one good domestic tournament for Glenn Maxwell to find a place in the international circuit. He has done it previously and it is a matter of the time for the flashy all-rounder to press his case for the selection.
