Pakistani Fans Sent Their Prayers For Me While I Was Battling Cancer: Yuvraj Singh

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh said that he received immense amount of love and good wishes while he was undergoing cancer treatment. The World Cup winner expressed his gratitude towards the Pakistan fans and went down the memory lane recently.

The star all-rounder was instrumental in India winning the 2007 World T20 and the 2011 50-over World Cup. In a conversation with Pakistan’s former hard-hitter Shahid Afridi, Yuvraj revealed he was touched by all the support that he received from beyond the border.

“I still remember when I was in the US for treatment and Twitter was new at that time. I posted something about my treatment and loads of Pakistani people sent their prayers for me,” Yuvraj said.

Yuvraj was diagnosed with cancer a year after MS Dhoni’s men lifted the coveted World Cup at Wankhede Stadium by beating Sri Lanka in the finals. The flamboyant athlete lost crucial years to the chronic disease but he feels fortunate to be back in leading a healthy life.

“It was a tough time for me. For a cricketer, remaining away from cricket is toughest.”

Yuvraj mentioned while talking to Afridi in the latter’s Youtube channel. The two former greats have always been on good terms off the field. Yuvraj made a successful comeback post his recovery. He even went on to register his highest ODI score in 2017 against England. One of the finest cricketers in the white-ball format, the 38-year-old called time on his career last year.

He will soon be seen playing in the Bushfire Cricket Bash at the Sydney Stadium on February 8. He will be accompanied by some big names. West Indies legend Brian Lara and Pakistan’s Wasim Akram will also be seen participating in the contest.
