On the margins of the ICC talks in Dubai from April 7 to 10, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja hopes to conduct positive conversations with his colleague from the BCCI.
On Wednesday night, Ramiz and PCB CEO Faisal Hasnain flew to Dubai to press for a meeting on the plan to establish a four-nation T20 event every year, with India, Pakistan, England, and Australia as participants.
While Australia has responded positively to Ramiz’s suggestion, India and England have yet to respond.
“The upcoming meetings are crucial because Ramiz intends to meet with BCCI officials on the side of the ICC discussions things of common interest, including as the four-nation proposal, the Asia Cup, and other issues,” a PCB source said.
In a recent interview, Ramiz stated that he believes it is unfair to keep fans away from India-Pakistan matches.
“Tickets for the 2022 T20 World Cup between India and Pakistan were sold in one day; we don’t have a political viewpoint on things, and if a fellow player leads the BCCI, we should be approachable to each other because we don’t understand politics.”
‘Ramiz Raja is confident that he will convince the other members of the board’
According to the source, Ramiz will provide a special report to the ICC executive board on hosting the Pakistan-Australia series, which ended on Tuesday in Lahore.
“Ramiz is confident that after hosting the Pakistan Super League and the series against Australia, he will have no trouble persuading the other member boards to arrange bilateral series against Pakistan in the 2024-25 calendar, with a focus on three-test series,” the source said.
According to the source, Ramiz Raja is not confident that the four-nation T20 competition idea will be accepted at the meeting, but he is convinced that it will at least spark discussion.
