Peter Nevill Appointed Full-time Captain of New South Wales

Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Peter Nevill is appointed as the captain of state-team New South Wales (NSW), in the absence of regular skipper Steven Smith.

Experienced campaigner Nevill will hold the captaincy reins for the JLT Cup and the premium domestic competition Sheffield Shield in the upcoming season, as confirmed by the team coach Phil Jacques.

In fact, Nevill has filled in the shoes of the captaincy when the team’s pivotal players were busy on national duties. Thus, the gloveman has the experience of leading his state team in the recent past.

Nevill has also led in the past:

“Peter has shown for some time that he is a quality leader on and off the field,” NSW coach Phil Jaques was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia.

Meanwhile, Peter had taken over the role of captaincy in the second phase of the previous season of the Sheffield Shield.

“His experience for Australia and decade of hard cricket at first-class level gives him the foundation to continue building on the successful tradition of NSW. Peter is a great role model for all our players in the way he goes about his work and helps every player to be the best they can be,” Jacques maintained.

Nevill had taken over from all-rounder Moises Henriques who had resigned citing personal reasons.

On the other hand, women team of the NSW will be led by Alyssa Healy after Alex Blackwell called it a day.

Consequently, both Men’s and Women’s team of the NSW will be led by the wicketkeepers.

Thus, Nevill will like to make a case for himself as current captain. However, Tim Paine has given a hint to take retirement from the One-day International format.

Paine had failed to lead Australia with aplomb in the recent thrashing at the hands of England. Therefore, it would be a golden opportunity for Peter Nevill to make it to the national fold.
