After playing for Kolkata Knight Riders for six years, Piyush Chawla will ply his trade for Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Super Kings secured the services of the veteran spinner by spending a sum of 6.75 crores in the auction on Thursday. Piyush Chawla also became the most expensive Indian player of the latest auction.

Piyush Chawla will further bolster Super Kings’ already strong spin department. The Super Kings already had the likes of Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santner, Harbhajan Singh in their ranks. The three-time champions also secured the services of R Sai Kishore, the left-arm spinner who finished as the highest wicket-taker in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy 2019.

‘CSK and MS Dhoni best’:

While Piyush Chawla will be looking to start a new chapter with the Super Kings, he has risked facing the ire of Kolkata Knight Riders fans after calling his new IPL team the best in the league. The leg-spinner also snubbed Gautam Gambhir and Dinesh Karthik as he said that MS Dhoni is the best captain in the league.

“There can’t be a better team than CSK to play for and better captain than MS Dhoni. As a player, you always want to be with a good team, play under a good captain and you can’t have a better team than CSK and a better leader than Mahi bhai. I can’t ask for more,” Chawla told PTI.

Since joining the Knight Riders in 2014, Chawla won the IPL once which came in his first season with the league. He was one of the most important players for the franchise and was also a fan favourite. The right-arm spinner, meanwhile, shares a good rapport with MS Dhoni. He was a part of the Indian team which won the 2011 World Cup under Dhoni. The leg spinner has played three Tests, 25 ODIs and 7 T20Is for India picking up a total of 43 international wickets.
