ICC Under-19 World Cup has its uniqueness in the gentleman’s game of cricket. Probably, it has been the first step for many great International cricketers before becoming legends. It has seen many budding cricketers grow from strength to strength and also ended up being the only significant thing in few cricketers’ careers. 5. Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Mohammad Kaif played in 1998 U19 WC:
After the span of 10 years, Under 19 World Cup once again came to the fore. However, the tournament didn’t go well for India as they never showed enough calibre to reach the pinnacle stages of the competition.
Despite missing the championship title, it produced greatest match-winners for India.
The likes of Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, ruled the game of cricket for many years. Meanwhile, Mohammad Kaif himself secured an excellent name for his fielding standards but remained as an underrated cricketer of India.
The other players to be involved in the very same tournament are Reetinder Sodhi, Amit Bhandari and Laxmi Ratan Shukla. They also bagged few international caps to their name as well.
4. In 2000, Kaif led Yuvraj Singh and Venugopal Rao:
For the first time, India won the Under-19 World cup. Kaif led the team very successfully in his second stint in the World Cup. It was a major tournament for Yuvraj Singh, who showed his calibre to the world.
He finished the World Cup as the player of the tournament. Then he was eventually given a chance to represent the senior team and then, as they say, it is history. He and Kaif played quite a limited-overs cricket together.
The other notable player in the squad was Venugopal Rao. He played 16 One-day International matches in the national fold. However, he couldn’t quite cope up with the International cricket thus stayed away from the team.
3. Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan, Dinesh Karthik, Ambati Rayudu, RP Singh, Robin Uthappa in 2014:
Probably, it was the greatest squad India ever had as far as delivering for the senior team is concerned. As many as eight players in the team featured for India after the conclusion of the World Cup.
Perhaps, the very same squad delivered the stars for the Indian cricket. Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina delivered many goods for Indian cricket while Karthik and Rayudu have their moments.
RP Singh has played a pivotal role for India while Uthappa was a part of India’s inaugural championship in Twenty20 International cricket in 2007. They also got the likes of Faiz Fazal and VRV Singh who played for India as well.
2. In 2006, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Cheteshwar Pujara, Piyush Chawla:
The 2006 edition of U-19 World Cup gave India a four star-cricketers. All of them have served Indian cricket for quite a period now. Apart from Piyush Chawla, the remaining three are the regulars of the Indian team.
Rohit Sharma turned as a legendary figure in the ODI format of the game while Cheteshwar Pujara is serving the national team in the Test cricket. Jadeja has become India’s finest all-rounder in Test and waiting for a comeback in ODIs.
All in all, the set of cricketers represented Men in Blue in the U-19 World Cup are very special. Chawla was the part of the ICC World Cup 2011 that was held in India.

It was the tournament in which India successfully clinched the championship. Meanwhile, it is also produced the greatest stalwart batsman for India in the form of Virat Kohli.
It was the tournament which featured a lot of great modern-day players for all the teams across the world. However, coming to India, Virat Kohli, Manish Pandey and Jadeja has grown strength to strength since then.
Siddarth Kaul, Abhinav Mukund and Saurabh Tiwary were also part of the team but couldn’t achieve the success like Kohli and Jadeja.
