Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind pay tribute to Ajit Wadekar

The honourable prime minister of India, Narendra Modi and the president of India, Ram Nath Kovind joined Indian cricket fraternity to pay their respect to the Indian legendary Ajit Wadekar.
The 77-year-old Ajit Wadekar passed away on Wednesday (August 15th) after a prolonged Illness. Meanwhile, the condolences from across India makes its way for the beautiful gentleman of Indian cricket.

The prime minister of India, Narendra Modi recollected all the achievement made by Ajit Wadekar on the cricketing field. He also remembers his efficiency as a cricket administrator for Team India setup.

Meanwhile, the president of India, Ram Nath Kovind tweeted saying that he is sad to hear the news of Anit Wadekar’s demise. Ram Nath Kovind recollected India’s glorious series win against Windies and England under Ajit Wadekar’s captaincy.
Narendra Modi’s tweet read ”Ajit Wadekar will be remembered for his rich contribution to Indian cricket. A great batsman & wonderful captain, he led our team to some of the most memorable victories in our cricketing history. He was also respected as an effective cricket administrator. Pained by his demise.”
Digging into Ram Nath Kovind’s tweet, it read ”Sad at the passing of Ajit Wadekar, one of Indian cricket’s finest left-handed batsman and captain during the iconic overseas test victories in 1971 in the Caribbean and England. Condolences to his family and to the cricket fraternity”

In his glorious career, Wadekar captained India in 16 Test matches in which they won 4 and lost 4. After a series loss against England, he stepped down from captaincy. Post captaincy steps down, he featured in one first-class game and bid adieu.
Furthermore, after the conclusion of his cricketing career, Ajit Wadekar served as a selector and also as the coach-cum-manager of the Indian side from 1992-93 to the 1996 World Cup. Despite, Wadekar left the world, he will always remain in the Indian fans’ heart.
