Teenage prodigy Prithvi Shaw who recently led the Indian Junior team to their fourth Youth ODI World Cup title last week is of the opinion that he is well equipped to make a graduation into senior cricket.

When asked whether he is ready for senior cricket, Shaw who was part of the Tamil Nadu-Mumbai Vijay Hazare Trophy clash said;

“I think so. I have to keep scoring runs. I have to grab those opportunities to be there in the senior team.”

BCCI Chairman of Selectors, MSK Prasad stated that the senior selection committee has been constantly keeping a track of the performance of the colts and they will consider them for the A tours to make sure they make steady progress through the ranks.

“We have been following all their matches and they will be considered for the ‘A’ team. We have been backing a particular set of players and have been consistent in our selection policy for both the senior team and the ‘A’ team,” said Prasad.

Prithvi Shaw is well aware of the fact that there will be high expectations. Given to this, he has started off his first-class career quite like Sachin Tendulkar and there will be certainly a comparison with the legendary batsman.

“Expectations will be there. Obviously, people will compare with Sachin sir or somebody else. But I know my game and I better be grounded. I have not even started and it’s a long journey,” said the teenage prodigy.

Shaw has earned his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) contract and will be playing for the Delhi Daredevils in the upcoming edition of the tournament.

However, he is not thinking about the IPL and has set prime focus on the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

“I don’t know what they are (IPL franchise) thinking. Personally, I’m not thinking about it now because I’m here to play Vijay Hazare. I will plan how to play in IPL when the tournament nears. I would like to be in present,” he added.
