Perhaps there exist only a few cricketers or captains for whom the idol is anyone but MS Dhoni. While MS Dhoni’s records as a captain are remarkable, to say the least, he carried the nation’s hopes without showing pressure from his face on most occasions. And U-19 Indian captain Priyam Garg revealed that he watches the former national team skipper’s videos to learn the art of leadership.

Priyam Garg could be one of the brightest prospects moving forward for the senior team. Garg captained the Men in Blue to the finals of the Under-19 World Cup that took place in South Africa this year. Under him, India bulldozed through sides like Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. However, they conceded the crown to Bangladesh, who won it for the first time.

While the 19-year old has not met MS Dhoni even once, Priyam claims that he is his inspiration and idol. The Meerut-born stated that he tries to be calm while batting or during the field and adapt rapidly to any situation like the keeper-batsman. The teen prodigy went on to say he keeps watching videos of Dhoni of those matches when he sparked turnaround of the game with the bat or gloves.

I follow Dhoni sir. He is my idol and inspiration. I follow his footsteps when it comes to batting or captaincy. I have learned how to remain calm and adapt to any situation and condition from Dhoni sir. I have watched his batting videos very closely and learnt from those. I always watch his videos of matches in which he turned the game on its head with his captaincy, batting or field-setting skills,” Priyam Garg told Times of India.

The right-handed batsman named his unbeaten 113 against Pakistan in 2012 in Chennai as his favourite innings of the veteran. Apart from that, 92 against South Africa in 2015 and 124 against Australia in 2009 also count amongst his favourites. Priyam added that such videos are marked in his favourites collection and he learnt the art of captaincy and batting looking at those.

“His innings of 113* vs Pakistan in 2012 in Chennai is one of my favourite innings. His 92* vs South Africa in 2015, 124 vs Australia in 2009 are also some of my favourite knocks by him. I have marked those videos as favourites in my collection. There are a number of his innings I watch to learn. I learn the batting and the art of captaincy from his videos,” he added.
