PSL 2018: Darren Sammy to be out of action after knee blow in UAE

Peshawar Zalmi was dealt with a major blow on Saturday. As their skipper, Darren Sammy will be out of the action for a couple of fixtures following the knee injury.  The latest to nurse the injury Sammy has been prolific for Zalmi family. Moreover, the injury-depleted camp is concurrently facing the tough time, as of now.

According to the official Twitter handle of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Sammy hasn’t been ruled out of the lucrative tournament. However, it is a sigh of relief for Zalmi’s camp.

The Zalmi management was eagerly waiting to witness promising bowler Hasan Ali to deliver the team to win. But, on the other side, the middle-order batsman Haris Sohail will also be out of action after suffering from a hand injury during practice.

It’s pertinent to mention that, the Windies star all-rounder Sammy will undergo the rehabilitation programme.

When Darren Sammy wins it on one leg for Zalmi:

In their previous game against Quetta Gladiators, Sammy led from the front to clinch the nail-biter on March 2.

Struggling to walk, Sammy braved the injury while scoring unbeaten 16 runs in just four balls. He smashed two sixes and a solitary boundary to see Zalmi clinch the match by five wickets.

As the list of injuries has extended in PSL which simultaneously included some of the foreign recruits which is an ominous sign.

The third edition of the Twenty20 league kicked off in Dubai on February 22. The defending champions Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans faced off in an opener.

Sammy, who had a mixed season in the PSL so far. He has delivered as a leader in his first stint as a leader in 2017 while lifting the coveted title against Gladiators.

Having the plenty of experience on his back, Sammy had featured in 266 T20s. He scored 3,347 runs and bagged 157 scalps at the average of 28.45.

Kamran Akmal – the captaincy option?

As a senior campaigner, Kamran Akmal might shoulder the responsibility until the return of Sammy. However, the management is expected to make the announcement soon. Moreover, Sammy will boost the morale of team-mates in the changeroom.

On the points table, Zalmi is placed fourth with two wins in four outings. Zalmi will face-off bleak-looking Lahore Qalandars on Saturday (March 3).
