The Australian summer is almost here and the players are geared up for the upcoming men’s and women’s Big Bash League. New Zealand women’s wicket-keeper batsmen Rachel Priest has made a switch from Melbourne Renegades to Sydney Thunders in the upcoming season after playing for the franchisee for two seasons.

Priest is known for her hard-hitting style of batting and scoring runs quickly. She led Renegades for season and scored 512 runs in two seasons and affecting 22 dismissals. On making a switch, she said,

“I’ve really enjoyed my time in the WBBL so far, I enjoyed my time at the Melbourne Renegades but I felt it was time for a change and to move to such a professional and competitive team really excites me. I’ve played a lot against Alex Blackwell, Rachael Haynes and Rene Farrell. It’s a very exciting squad that also has a lot of young talented players.”

Priest had a dismal run at the World Cup scoring just 125 runs in six matches, and she was not dropped from the squad as the selectors have asked her to the world on her physical conditioning. Priest has played 68 women’s T20I for New Zealand and has scored 757 runs at an average of 16.82.

Thunder won the inaugural edition of the Women’s Big Bash League but failed to make it to the semi-finals last season. They will begin their 2017-18 campaign against the Renegades on December 9 at North Sydney Oval.
