Rahul Dravid Calls Afghanistan India's Biggest Threat In Asia Cup

Former India skipper Rahul Dravid feels India’s biggest threat in the ongoing Asia Cup at UAE is Afghanistan and not Pakistan.

As expected, India are looking like the team to beat in the competition. The Men in Blue have won all their three games so far. After being given a mighty scare by Hong Kong in the opening game, India were back to their dominating best in the following games against Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The Rohit Sharma-led side bowled out both the teams for subpar totals before chasing down the total with utmost ease to register comprehensive wins. India bowled out Pakistan for just 162. In reply, they chased down the modest total in 29 overs by losing just two wickets.

Bangladesh also turned out to be a no match for India. The Tigers were all out for a paltry 173. In reply, India lost just three wickets to cross the finishing line inside 37 overs.

On the other hand, Afghanistan have also looked impressive. They won their first two games with convincing margins before losing a nail-biting thriller against Pakistan. The Asghar Afghan-led side began their campaign with a 91-run win over Sri Lanka. In the second game, they dismantled Bangladesh by 136 runs. Their winning run then came to an end when they lost a thriller against Pakistan.

Afghanistan now face a herculean task to make it to the final of the competition while India are looking set for the same. Prior to that, they will meet each other in the Super Four stage. And Dravid believes they have the potential to upset India too.

“Afghanistan is doing well, I don’t know why we are only focusing on Pakistan. Look at their performance, Afghanistan are also a force to reckon with,” said Dravid.

Dravid urged the Rohit Sharma-led Indian side to focus on other teams rather than focusing too much on Pakistan.

“If I was in the team I would not just be focusing on Pakistan. We are playing very good white ball cricket but we have to be careful of other teams too,” Dravid said.

India will meet Afghanistan on September 25 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
