Kerala wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson has shown faith in the capabilities of Rajasthan Royals and said that they are the topmost side in the IPL. Rajastha Royals have failed to produce the desired result in the recent years but Sanju Samson dismissed the ‘underdogs’ tag on them.
The Jaipur franchise will heavily rely on their overseas players – Ben Stokes, Steve Smith, Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer. Samson feels that the team has changed a lot in the recent past as the management have been selecting the best players around the world.
“The team has changed, the players have changed, the setup has changed. We have been selecting one of the best players around the world. If you look at the Rajasthan Royals team on the list, I think we are the topmost team in the IPL. We are not underdogs now, we are the topmost contenders for the tournament,” Sanju Samson said in an exclusive chat on Sports Tak.
Apart from the overseas stars, Rajasthan Royals also have young talents in form of Samson, Riyan Parag and Shreyas Gopal, who have proved their potential in the shortest format of the game.
Samson broke into the Indian team through his consistent performances in the IPL. Samson, however, failed to replicate his form in the few chances he got to play for the national team.
Samson received his T20I cap for India in 2015 against Zimbabwe. He has played four matches in the shortest format, scoring 35 runs, which has seen him being dropped out of the side. Samson, 29, has played 55 matches for Kerala in domestic cricket, scoring 3162 runs, at an average of 37.64.
Samson has the experience of playing 149 T20Is, where he has scored 3481 runs at an average of 26.98. He also has two centuries and 21 half-centuries to his name.
