Former Ranji Cricketer Shekhar Gawli Dies After Falling Into 250-Feet Valley

Former Maharashtra Ranji cricketer Shekhar Gawli fell into a 250-feet deep valley in Maharashtra’s Nasik district and died, the police confirmed. According to various media reports, Shekhar Gawli went for trekking in the Western Ghat mountains of Igatpuri hill station in Nashik along with some of his friends on Tuesday evening.

The ex-Maharashtra cricketer fell into the valley after losing his balance. His body was missing for a few hours after the accident but the police had then successfully recovered it.

“His body was found at around 10 am on Wednesday. The body will be handed over to the family members after postmortem,” an official from Igatpuri police station told PTI.

“In a tragic incident our former player and current Trainer of Maharashtra team Shekhar Gawli, passed away tragically .Our condolences to his family and friends .We are all with his family in this tragic situation. May his soul rest in peace,” Maharashtra Cricket Association said in a tweet.

Gawli was an all-rounder and represented Maharashtra in two Ranji trophy matches. The leg-spinner had three wickets to his name.

He also served as the fitness coach of Maharashtra U-23 team.
