Ranji Trophy 2018-19: Elite Group B Roundup Day Two

Here is a roundup of the Elite Group B matches on day two of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy.

Andhra vs Punjab (Ranji Trophy):

Starting day two on 261 for 6, Punjab managed to score 414. In reply, Andhra ended the day on a precarious 54 for 3 at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.

Sanvir Singh starred with the bat for Punjab, scoring his maiden first-class century before falling for 110. Sanvir got good support from leg-spinner Mayank Markande, who remained unbeaten on 68. The duo put on 77 runs for the eight wicket. The tail also contributed with Arpit Pannu scoring 18, Siddarth Kaul adding 16 and Barinder Sran making 15.

With the ball,  Bandaru Ayyappa claimed 3/78 while Karn Sharma also picked up three wickets. Shoaib and DP Vijaykumar grabbed two wickets each.

Himachal vs Bengal (Ranji Trophy)Ranji Trophy:

Himachal folded up Bengal for 380 in the first innings. Bengal’s tail put up a good show as they added 114 runs for the last four wickets.  Amir Gani’s 47 and Ashok Dinda’s 38 were the notable contributions for Bengal. For Himachal, Pankaj Jaiswal picked up his maiden first-class five-wicket haul. Rishi Dhawan and Prashant Chopra picked up two wickets each.

In reply, Himachal began poorly. Ashoke Dinda rocked the hosts by dismissing their skipper Prashant Priyanshu Khanduri early to reduce them to 40 for 2.

However, in-form Ankush Bains counter-attacked adding an unbeaten 79 runs in 121 balls and with Nikhil Gangta put on 83 runs for the third wicket. Bengal then had the sigh of relief when Gani removed Gangta for 22. Himachal ended the day on 124 for 3, trailing Bengal by 256 runs.

Kerala vs Hyderabad (Ranji Trophy):

In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala rode on centuries from skipper Sachin Baby and Vasudevan Jagadeesh to declare their innings on 495 for 6.

Resuming at an overnight score of 53, Baby scored his fourth first-class century. He shared a big stand of 182 runs with Jagadeesh to lay the foundation for a big total. PS Sairam ended the stand by dismissing Baby for 147.

Jagadeesh then found an able partner in Akshay Chandran who made an unbeaten 48 off 87 balls as the former reached his eighth ton in first-class cricket.

In reply, Hyderabad openers Tanmay Agarwal (1*)and Akshath Reddy (0*) played out the remaining one over.

Tamil Nadu vs Madhya Pradesh (Ranji Trophy):

In Dindigul, Tamil Nadu bowled out Madhya Pradesh for 393. Overnight centurion Rajat Patidar missed his double century by just 4 runs.

Madhya Pradesh suffered a big collapse’ losing their last six wickets for just 43 runs. M Mohammad took a hat-trick, removing Yash Dubey (6), Patidar and Mihir Hirwani (0) off consecutive deliveries. He finished with 4 for 98 while their spin spearhead Ravichandran Ashwin took 4 for 85.

In reply, Tamil Nadu ended the day without opening their account.
