Ranji Trophy 2018-19: Plate Group Roundup Day Two

Here is a roundup of the Plate Group matches on day two of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy.

Uttarakhand thrash Bihar inside two days (Ranji Trophy):

Uttarakhand announced their arrival in the Ranji Trophy by winning their first-ever match inside two days. The debutants thrashed Bihar by ten wickets on Friday in Dehradun.

That Uttarakhand were set to win the contest was pretty much clear when Deepak Dhapola’s 6/13 helped them bowl out Bihar for a paltry 60. They began the day with a big lead of 141 before being all out for 227. Bihar did well in the second innings but could only manage 169, thus setting Uttarakhand a target of just 4 runs. Karanveer Kaushal needed one ball to complete a huge win.

Nagaland on course for a big win (Ranji Trophy):

In Soviam, Nagaland ended day two against Mizoram in the driver’s seat. Resuming on 189/4 with a lead of 83, Nagaland lost skipper Rongsen Jonathan for the addition of just two runs to his overnight 70. However, they went on to score 530 for 8 before declaring.  Abrar Kazi starred with the bat, scoring 200 not out off just 215 balls.  Mughavi Wotsa (58) and Imliwati Lemtur (50) also made useful contributions with the bat.

Mizoram had to see out ten overs on day two but they still lost two wickets, thus finishing on 16 for 2. They are still 408 runs behind Nagaland’s first innings total.

Arunachal Pradesh in driver’s seat (Ranji Trophy):

In Shillong, Arunachal Pradesh ended  day two with a lead of 129 over hosts Meghalaya with four wickets in hand. Arunachal Pradesh were reeling at 14 for 3 before Kshitiz Sharma’s 41 and an unbeaten 22 from skipper Kamsha Yangfo helped them end the day on 104 for 6.

Meghalaya had begun the proceedings with the bat on day two. They started the day on 87 for 6, trailing Arunachal Pradesh by 79 runs. They went on to score 141 runs in their first innings. Skipper Jason Lamare top-scored with 70. With the ball, Licha Tehi, Subhash Sharma and Sandeep Thakur each took three wickets.

Sikkim on top (Ranji Trophy):

In Kolkata, Sikkim bowled out Manipur for just 79 before asking them to follow-on. Former Delhi player Milind Kumar starred with the bat for Sikkim, scoring 261 as the team scored 372. Sikkim then folded up Manipur inside 28 overs.

Only two batsmen –  Yashpal Singh (29) and Priyojit Singh (30) – managed to cross the double-digit mark. As many as six Manipur players failed to even open their accounts. Chaudhary took 4/37 and former Haryana and Punjab spinner Bipul Sharma 3/17.

Forced to follow-on, they did better in getting to stumps at 123/2 with Lakhan Arjun Rawat 62 and Yashpal 48. They still trail Sikkim by 170 runs.
