It was a sensational innings by stand-in-skipper Rohit Sharma who blazed his way his 3rd ODI double century against Sri Lanka in the 2nd ODI at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. Rohit who has been named as the interim skipper in the absence of Virat Kohli was well aware of the situation ahead of the 2nd clash which was a do or die encounter for the hosts after a humiliating loss in Dharamsala.

Rohit began with a cautious approach much like his two other double centuries. He reached his first fifty in 65 deliveries and was yet to unleash the big shots on a consistent basis. He struck a solitary six till the 40th over when he reached his 16th ODI century. Who would have imagined a batsman getting to his century in the 40th over will end up scoring an unbeaten 208 at the end of the 50th over?

From the 41st over it was real carnage from the blade of Rohit Sharma. There were no singles no doubles and no fours. Everything was going out of the park as the Hitman of Indian cricket smashed 11 sixes in the last ten overs. He was unstoppable and made the Lankan bowling attack look clueless.

Sixes kept flowing from his blade as he reached his 2nd century in a mere 36 deliveries. He reached his 3rd double ton in the final over and eventually remained unbeaten on 208 of 153 deliveries which were studded with 13 fours and 12 hits over the fence. It was also a special day in Rohit’s life as it was their marriage anniversary. His wife Nikita Sajdeh was left teary-eyed when his husband reached a historic landmark.

Congratulatory messages kept flowing in following his knock. Among them was Team India head coach Ravi Shastri who called Rohit’s innings as full paisa vasool knock. “Stunning innings. It was Rohit Paisa Vasool Shaaaaarma all the way. Way to go boy @ImRo45 #TeamIndia #INDvSL #RohitSharma,” Shastri wrote.
