New Zealand team gave everything in the must-win match against the Men in Blue at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Wednesday (January 29). But all their efforts went in vain as India beat the hosts in the super over. Earlier, India managed to score 179/5 in their allotted quota of 20 overs.
Thanks to Rohit Sharma’s quickfire 65 off 40 deliveries with the help of six fours and three sixes to his name.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli too played well down the order as he scored a 27-ball 38 including two fours and a six.
In reply, Kiwis started off the game with high intensity and at one point of time, it looked like they were going to finish off the game with balls to spare. However, India fast bowler Mohammed Shami had other ideas in mind.
When Kiwis required just two runs off the last four balls, Shami bowled really well to dismiss Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor and gave away just one run in last four balls. The game ended in a pulsating tie as both teams had to play a super over.
There on, New Zealand managed to score 17 runs off Jasprit Bumrah’s over with the help of Kane Williamson and Martin Guptill. In reply, Indian cricket team won the super over to win the T20I series in New Zealand for the first time in cricket history.
When 10 runs were required off the last two balls off Tim Southee, Rohit Sharma hit two terrific sixes to steer India past the finishing line. He was named the Player of the Match for his sensational performance.
