Sourav Ganguly, on Tuesday, lavished praise on Ravichandran Ashwin for picking up most number of international wickets this decade. The BCCI president rightly pointed out that the spinner’s achievements are often go unnoticed. Ravichandran Ashwin has arguably been India’s biggest match-winner in Tests this decade.

In the last five years or so, he was almost unplayable at home and his stats pretty much prove it. At home this decade, he has claimed 254 Test wickets at 22.80 with 21 five-wicket hauls. He holds the record for the fastest Indian to 100 Test wickets. The Tamil Nadu ace is also the fastest bowler to pick up 250 Test wickets and is joint-fastest bowler, along with Muttiah Muralitharan, to take his 350th Test wicket.

Ravichandran Ashwin won the ICC Cricketer of the year 2016 along with ICC Test Cricketer of the year 2016 in December 2016. His performance in ODIs and T20Is was also good. He was a part of the team that won the World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013. He also helped India make it to the semifinal of the World Cup in 2015, 2016 T20 World Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy.

In the soon-to-end decade, Ravichandran Ashwin has picked up a staggering 564 wickets. He picked up 362 wickets in Tests, 150 in ODIs and 52 in T20Is. No other bowler has picked up more wickets than him this decade. England great James Anderson is second in the list with 535 wickets to his name this decade.

And as Sourav Ganguly came to know about this stat, he was quick to take to Twitter to praise Ravichandran Ashwin. He also pointed out that Ashwin’s achievements do not get the recognition they deserve. Calling it a super stuff, Ganguly wrote:

“Most international wickets for ashwin this decade ⁦@ashwinravi99 @bcci .. what an effort .. just get a Feeling it goes unnoticed at times .. super stuff ..”

Ravichandran Ashwin replies:

Ashwin was quick to respond to the beautiful tweet from Sourav Ganguly and made it clear that he was delighted with the compliment. The spinner tweeted:

“Thank you so much dada”.
