It was a thoroughly professional performance by Team India as they annihilated Test debutants Afghanistan by an innings and 262 runs in only the 2nd day of the Test match. The historic Test was played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. After a brilliant performance from the batters on the opening day of the Test, the onus was up to the bowlers to deliver and they didn’t disappoint at all. They played some organised cricket and never really allowed Afghanistan to claw their way back.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan smashed a quickfire century in the 1st innings which was instrumental in helping them post a mammoth total on the board. The southpaw became the 1st Indian to score a Test century before Lunch on an opening day of a Test match. His innings of 107 came in a mere 96 deliveries. His innings was decorated with 19 fours and 3 hits over the fence.

Murali Vijay also chipped in with a useful century while KL Rahul made a fifty. Hardik Pandya’s innings of 71 eventually helped India go past the 400 and 450 mark. It was always going to be difficult for Afghanistan and it was quite evident after the fall of Mohammad Shehzad’s wicket via a runout. It was an ordinary piece of batting performance by the Afghans in both the innings.

For the first time, the Indian bowlers managed to bowl their oppositions out twice in a day. Ravichandran Ashwin bagged 4 wickets as the visitors were skittled out for 109 in their 1st innings. Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma also chipped in with a couple of wickets each. For the Afghans, Mohammad Nabi was the top scorer. He was the only batsman to showed some resilience out in the middle.

Even in the 2nd essay, the story was no different from the Afghans. Nabi was promoted up the order but he fell without troubling the scorer. He was dismissed by Umesh Yadav with a short of length delivery. The on-field umpire ruled it in favour of the batting team. However, Ajinkya Rahane decided to go for the review on the advice of Dinesh Karthik. Naked eyes suggested that the ball would have missed the leg stump or barely clipped the side of the stump. However, replays showed that the major part of the ball would crash on to the stumps.

Great review by Karthik

It was a great review taken by India. Karthik was congratulated by his teammate following the call. His Tamil Nadu mate Ravichandran Ashwin shared a picture where he is seen sharing a light moment with the wicket-keeper batsman. “Chuchubujikki!! ? after 57 years 3 TN players on and the park and @dk00019 ‘s review hastened the finish,” he wrote.
