What an eventful last few days it has been for Ravindra Jadeja? The flamboyant all-rounder was kept out of the limited-overs format ever since his blunder in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final. Though he got chances, he got ignored in the playing XI. Meanwhile, he made a remarkable comeback which impressed the former great Venkatapathy Raju.

Jaddu has been kept out of the Test playing XI in England, and then, he answered all the critics and the team management by performing beautifully in the final Test.

In another turnaround of events, he got a call-up in the middle of Asia Cup 2018, where he once again proved his capability.

Ravindra Jadeja will be useful – Venkatapathy Raju

The former spinner of India quoted the finger spinner like Ravindra Jadeja will be very helpful for the team across the formats. He also lauded the effort put in by the Saurashtra Cricketer to make a comeback.

Raju, went on to praise the stylish southpaw citing it isn’t an easy task to adjust to the limited-overs formats. He stressed the selectors need to look after Ravindra Jadeja as the longtime option.

”Finger spinners like Jadeja  is quick in the air and bowl a good line and length. He will be relevant across formats. He’s a no-nonsense bowler and knows his limitations and works around his control and variations. He’s a brilliant athlete, a very good fielder, a proven all-rounder with accuracy in bowling and double hundreds to his credit in domestic cricket. Jadeja is the complete package irrespective of the format,” he said to Times of India.

“When you are not playing limited-overs, it is important to feature in the longer format. How much ever you practice, it doesn’t help. Exhibiting your skills in the nets counts for little. You must go out there and put in the hard yards in match situations. It is important for spinners to play in the longer version of the sport because of the match time you get. If you have control in the four-day game, it becomes easier to adjust to the shorter format,” he explained.

Will team India continue Ravindra Jadeja?

However, as Venkatapathy Raju opined, Ravindra Jadeja has been exceptional for India in the Asia Cup 2018. He made full use of the conditions and proved his worth as the player for the team.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to watch whether team India prefers him again in the upcoming bilateral series or not if Hardik Pandya makes his return.

Can India find a place in the playing XI with Hardik, Chahal and Kuldeep around?
