The likes of Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Shane Watson, Deepak Chahar, and Lungi Ngidi’s return to top-level cricket were met with a victory. They were part of Chennai Super Kings’ outfit, who beat defending champions Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2020 opener in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. Following the five-wicket win, Ravindra Jadeja hailed the side’s effort.

Rohit Sharma and Quinton De Kock began Mumbai Indians’ batting with a 46-run opening stand following which Saurabh Tiwary and Hardik Pandya built on it. However, the rest of the batters could not capitalize as they managed 162 in 20 overs. After Chennai’s openers perished cheaply, Ambati Rayudu and Faf Du Plessis stitched a 115-run partnership to put them on track.

Rayudu top-scored with 71 while Du Plessis remained unbeaten at 58 as CSK cruised to a win. Ravindra Jadeja, who played a significant part in the yellow army’s victory, took to his official Instagram account and lauded the boys for the effort. Jadeja wrote a caption as “Felt awesome to be back doing what I love. Super win. Let’s go @chennaiipl #whistlepodu.”

Until his fourth over, the Saurashtra all-rounder conceded 37 runs without a wicket. However, in his fourth over, he claimed two critical scalps. The left-arm spinner removed Saurabh Tiwary in the first ball of the 15th over, who was the set batsman for 42. In the fifth delivery, Hardik Pandya, who had struck two sixes by then, holed out to long-off.

Faf Du Plessis played an equally significant role in Ravindra Jadeja’s wickets, taking scintillating catches on the fence. The 31-year old finished with figures of 4-0-42-2. With the bat, the left-hander scored ten runs off five deliveries in the closing stages to give the yellow army an upper hand. Left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya claimed his scalp. CSK play their second game against Rajasthan Royals in Dubai on the 22nd of September.
