Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have been greeted with a strong support by their fans during the IPL matches at the Chinnaswamy stadium. However, the IPL 2020 in UAE, will be different from the usual. IPL 2020 will be held behind closed doors devoid of fan supports to ensure the safety of players during the Covid-19 situation.

RCB heavyweight AB de Villiers said that playing in front of big crowd gave the players some sort of adrenaline rush especially when they get loud. The South African also added that the crowd support will be missed during the IPL 2020.

“I think everyone wants to play in front of big stadiums, there is a sort of adrenaline that pumps into you when the crowd gets very loud especially in the Chinnaswamy when the RCB crowd gets going, it gets difficult to stop the RCB side. We will miss that, I won’t say I am not used to it, I have played a lot of cricket in empty stadiums,” AB de Villiers said in a video on Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) official App.

“I grew up like that, it’s only during the last few years of my international career that I played in front of full stadiums. Even then, every season I used to go back to play domestic cricket and play a four-day game and there were just four-five people sitting inside the stadium. But we will miss the RCB crowd without any doubt,” AB de Villiers added.

RCB has the record of reaching three finals. RCB entered the final match last time in 2016 but since then they have been at the bottom of the table. Moreover, in 2019, the franchise  finished last with just 5 wins from 14 matches. The team chairman has also said that though the team is learning, not winning titles adds pressure.

IPL 2020 will be played entirely in UAE due to the pandemic situation forcing the cricket board to host the tournament away from India. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah will be the three venues used for the tournament. Dream 11 have been named as the sponsor for the upcoming season of the tournament after VIVO pulled out.
