Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opener Virat Kohli continued to struggle with his rhythm as he looked stoic yet slow in his knock against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which was ended by Moeen Ali in the IPL 2022 match between the two sides being played at the MCA Stadium in Pune on May 4, 2022.
This is a crucial match for both teams as Chennai Super Kings are coming off a win against Sunrisers Hyderabad as MS Dhoni returned to captaincy for the side, while Royal Challengers Bangalore lost their last match despite Virat Kohli scoring his maiden fifty in this IPL 2022 season.
It is a matter of points for both the sides as well, as CSK has 6 points with 3 wins in 9 matches, while RCB is placed 6th with 5 wins in 10 matches and 5 losses. A loss here for either team might make the road to playoffs qualification extremely difficult for them.
Moeen Ali Rattles Virat Kohli’s Stumps With A Dream Delivery For An Off-Spinner
Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl first. CSK made one change to the playing XI as Moeen Ali replaced Mitchell Santner in the team. Ali had missed the last couple of games after injuring his ankle during practice. The Royal Challengers Bangalore remained unchanged.
RCB started well with Faf du Plessis taking charge and scoring 38 in 22 balls with 4 fours and 1 six, while being watchful and struggling with timing and rhythm. The duo added 62 runs in 7 overs before Faf du Plessis fell to Moeen Ali as he was caught by Jadeja.
Then a mix-up caused Glenn Maxwell to be runout for 3 runs and much depended on Kohli to see them through.
However, Kohli was skeptical against Moeen Ali and on the 5th ball of the 10th over, Ali got the better of the former RCB captain. The England all-rounder tossed one up of the off-stump and Kohli tried to flick the ball towards the legside, leaving a huge gap in between the bat and his front pad.
It was enough for the ball to spin through and rattle his stumps and Kohli had to go back into the hut for 30 in 33 balls, leaving RCB 79/3.
