Virat Kohli-led India, on Saturday, bowled out Bangladesh for just 213 in the second innings to wrap up the first Test inside three days. India thrashed the visitors by an innings and 130 runs to register their sixth win on the trot in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship. Not many had given the tourists even an outside chance of winning in India but not many would have predicted such capitulation either.

Barring the toss, not much went right for the Tigers. They boldly decided to bat first on a green top and paid the price soon as they were bowled out for just 150. With the ball, they managed to dismiss Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli cheaply but it did not make much difference. Mayank Agarwal went on to smash a cracking 243 as India posted a massive total of 493 for 6 (declared).

Bangladesh started day three firmly on the backfoot. They needed to perform out of their skin to make India bat again. However, they started disastrously as their openers – Imrul Kayes and Shadman Islam – departed for just 16 runs on the board. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were five down for just 73.

Bangladesh were looking set to be folded up for less than 200 once again but a fighting fifty from veteran Mushfiqur Rahim saved them the blushes. The tourists were eventually all out for 213.

Speaking at the end of the game, Virat Kohli said he is at loss of words to describe the team’s performance. The skipper was all praise for the fast-bowlers.

“I don’t really know what to say. Clinical performances all around. The team is playing really well. I can’t say something which people are not seeing on TV. Fast bowlers are at the top of their game. It’s a dream bowling combination for any skipper. Even the slip fielders are ready as they know the ball can come any over,” said Virat Kohli.

“The numbers and the records are there to see. Our focus is to take the Indian cricket higher and higher. The motivation and the intent is right and we don’t care about the numbers,” he added.

Kohli was further asked about the incident when he signalled Mayank Agarwal to go for a triple century. Sitting in the dressing room, Kohli signalled with his fingers, asking Agarwal to make it big. In reply, the India star said:

“The mindset is simple, when you see a young guy coming in to bat, in Tests I know how much time it took me to get those big hundreds, so I know the importance of getting big runs. It’s important as a senior batter to let them know to keep going. I want them to not make the mistakes I made as a youngsters to make them world class cricketers. The pink-ball Test is going to be exciting, will be a challenge for the batters.”
