There is little denying the fact that the fans in this cricket-obsessed nation remain desperate to know about each and every detail of the game. The fans take great interest in not only on the action that goes on the field but also on what goes on with the players away from the field. Unsurprisingly, the fans remain well updated on the players’ cricket career as well as their personal lives.
However, the same cannot be said when it comes to the umpires. While the umpires definitely play a huge role in the game, the fans do not show too much interest in them. But it definitely does not undermine the importance of umpires in the game. Those officials are paramount for the smooth conduct of a cricket match.
Thus the International Cricket Council (ICC) needs to take great care of the umpires. So through this article, we are taking a look at how much do the umpires earn for their hard work on the field.
As per report, the annual fee of an ICC Elite panel umpire ranges between 35,000 US Dollars (Rs 24,00,000 approx) and 45,000 US Dollars (Rs 31,00,000 approx). In addition, the ICC umpires receive a match fee of 3,000 US Dollars (Test), 1000 US Dollars (T20I) and 2200 US Dollars (ODIs).
Generally, an Elite panel umpire stands in 8-10 Test matches and 10-15 ODIs in a year which means he pockets around 46,000 US Dollars (Rs 32,00,000 approx) at least in addition to receiving the ICC annual fee. The fee further increases when the umpires officiate during ICC tournaments. Not only that, the umpires now also earn lucrative amounts through the different T20 leagues across the globe.
According to DailyHunt, IPL umpires earn a whopping 2500 US Dollars (average) per match, which is roughly Rs 1,70,000 for every IPL match the umpires stand for. Apart from the income, the ICC umpires are entitled to travel across the world for business purposes completely free of cost. The umpires also stay in the finest of hotels completely free of cost.
Thus, an ICC umpire earns around 100,000 US Dollars or Rs 70,00,000 approximately.
