Ricky Ponting is a passionate-passionate ambassador of the game! He showed it during his playing days for Australia through his body language and results which followed. It has been years since he bid adieu to the international circuit but his passion for the game still remains intact without a hint of doubt.

Delhi Capitals head coach Ponting was left elated and expressed his emotions in  the dugout as his team clinched a 13-run victory over Rajasthan Royals in Dubai. The victory helped the capital franchise climb on top of the table as they look like a solid contender to clinch their maiden IPL title.

I get emotional because I care so much about the results: Ricky Ponting

Ponting said that he tends to get a bit emotional in the dugout depending on the result. He added that the main reason is because he cares about the progress of the team which works so hard to produce the desired result. The most successful Australian captain also mentioned that he remains heavily involved in the planning for the team.

“I do tend to get a little bit emotional in the dugout. I think the main reason I get emotional is because I care so much about the results for this team. We put in a lot of hard work, and you know, all that planning and preparation comes down to what the boys do on match day, so I do get pretty heavily involved – but last time (against RR) more so because we started the game really poorly – lost a wicket off the first ball and Jinks (Ajinkya Rahane) got out soon after.”

“One thing I’ve been telling the boys is – if you can just keep yourselves in the game, and keep fighting then we might be able to pull some wins out of games which we probably shouldn’t win – against RR was one such game. I just love seeing the boys fight like that for every win because as we know, in the IPL, (it) is not easy to win games, so to pinch a game like that was a great result for the boys,” added the 45-year-old.

Ponting is an extraordinary mind to have in the dressing room. Delhi Capitals players are reaping benefits from his time at the franchise as head coach. His impact on the team has also been quick as Delhi Capitals, studded with some young talents, went on to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in seven years in the last season of IPL.
