Team India’s much-maligned wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant on Sunday took an incredible diving catch of Kyle Jamieson on Day 2 of the second Test between India and New Zealand in Christchurch. After a meek performance by Indians on Day 1, the bowlers helped them stage a comeback in the game.

India roared back in the game after dismissing the Kiwis top order on regular intervals. Although Jamieson and Neil Wagner’s late flourish pegged back the visitors. Together, the New Zealand batsmen added 50 runs for the ninth wicket, and once again, the tail was back to haunt Virat Kohli’s men. They tried everything, but Jamieson and Wagner kept the late onslaught going.

Slowly the home side was inching close towards India’s total of 242 when Mohammed Shami got rid of Neil Wagner when Ravindra Jadeja plucked out a blinder out of thin air.

Later, Pant also got involved in the act when he dismissed Jamieson with a brilliant diving catch. Shami banged a ball in short which Jamieson tried to pull, but could only send the ball up high, which Pant chased and took comfortably.

That catch ended the New Zealand innings and handed India a slender 7-run lead. The visiting team have well truly made a comeback in the match after a blunt performance on Day 1. At one point in time, it looked like the game has completely opened up but Kiwis bowlers have staged a remarkable comeback in the final session.

The outcome of this game will now depend on how India fare in their second innings on the day three. The pitch has indeed become quicker, but it still has enough assistance to keep the home side interested.

However, at the time of writing, India had scored 71 runs at the loss of three wickets during the third session of Day 2.

At stumps on day two, India were reeling at 90 for six. Overall, they have taken the second innings lead to 97 with Rishabh Pant and Hanuma Vihari at the crease.
