Rishabh Pant, India and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batsman, missed out from his sides’ fixture against the Mumbai Indians on Sunday and is set to miss atleast one more game (against Rajasthan Royals) after skipper Shreyas Iyer confirmed in the post-match presentation that the southpaw will be resting atleast for a week.

Apparently, according to the sources, as quoted by ANI, Rishabh Pant is struggling from soreness in his hamstring and given the fact that the swashbuckler will be a vital part of the team at the business end of the tournament, the franchise decided against risking Pant.

“He has a hamstring strain which has led to soreness and honestly, the team management doesn’t wish to take a chance with him. Going into the business end the team will need his firepower and why risk it when he can rest for a week and get back a 100 per cent. There is nothing to worry about and it is just a case of the humidity taking a toll on the body,” the source said.

Earlier, Shreyas Iyer had said in the post-match presentation that-

“We have no idea (on Pant’s availability), the doctor said he has to rest for a week and hope he comes back really strong.”

Rishabh Pant suffered the injury during the Delhi Capitals fixture against Rajasthan Royals last Friday. The southpaw was seen liming his way to complete Varun Aaron’s catch besides struggling to throw the ball from the deep. It, however, started with a sprint towards mid-wicket in an attempt to stop a quick single early on in RR’s innings.

This is not the first time that Delhi Capitals have grabbled with injuries in their set-up. While Ishant Sharma missed a few games due to back spasm and Ravichandran Ashwin due to shoulder injury, ace spinner Amit Mishra’s tournament came to an end after he injured a tendon in the ring finger of his bowling hand while trying to catch Nitish Rana in one of the earlier games.

Meanwhile, DC made two forced changes to their playing 11 against MI with Ajinkya Rahane coming in for Pant and Alex Carey replacing Shimron Hetmyer.
