An injury to Pant had forced the team-management to rejig their batting order with Ajinkya Rahane coming in for the injured swashbuckler and Alex Carey replacing Shimron Hetmyer.

The Capitals lost their first game against defending champions, Mumbai Indians, in Pant’s absence but since then they have recovered to notch up consecutive wins against Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings.
