Robin Uthappa Picks Gautam Gambhir As The Best Captain He Played Under

It is fair to say that former Indian opening batsman and one half of the greatest opening pairs to have ever played for the Men in Blue- especially in white-ball cricket- Gautam Gambhir comes into the league of potential great leaders that never captained India on a full-time basis. Gambhir was an epitome of steely nerves and that explains why he was so successful whenever India found themselves in a spot of bother.

His innings in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 50-over World Cup are a part of folklore. Uthappa reckoned that the biggest quality of Gambhir that stood out for him was that even though he didn’t speak much, he communicated just enough to ensure that his teammates were in a good frame of mind.

“Gauti, for me, stood out. Even though he doesn’t speak much, he communicates just what is enough, and you know that you’re in a good place. Good leaders make you feel secure, then they let you be, and you see that in their results as a captain,” Robin Uthappa told ESPNCricinfo.
