It was a scintillating Test for India in many ways. All the players showed their class and got something to take home from the match. Firstly, it was Rohit Sharma, who showed that he is the best suit for the opening while Mayank Agarwal proved his worth. In between, Cheteshwar Pujara is also back among the run-scorers thus making things tight for Faf du Plessis-side.

After incredible partnership in the first innings by Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal, South Africans did reasonably well by smashing beautiful centuries to reach the required total. However, Indians got brilliant tally on the board in the second innings as well, which made South Africa stay on the losing side.

We fought well – Faf du Plessis

Speaking of the same, Faf du Plessis believes that the partnership from Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara in the second innings has taken the game away from the team. Further, he feels that there is a massive difference between the spin department of both the teams.

Faf du Plessis went on to add saying that the team batting has been up to the mark, as they showed a lot of resilience in the middle facing tough Indian bowling attack. He gave a special mention to the bowling department, which he wants to perform with the tracks offering assistance to the spinners.

”Great start to the game with the bat. Obviously India batted well, two great knocks by Mayank and Rohit. We fought well in our first innings with the bat… To get that sort of a total in the second innings of a game in India is tough. Their second innings was tough for us, Rohit and Pujara took the game away from us. I thought up until this morning, we competed pretty well on a good pitch…”

Mohammed Shami bowled beautifully:

Faf du Plessis also hailed the heroics of Mohammed Shami, who perfectly used the pitch. He believes that fast bowler bagging wickets on such a wicket is an exceptional thing to do.

”Day 5 if it starts misbehaving like that it’s fine.. That’s part of Test cricket. If you are always through a game like that you can think of the what ifs. The seamers were mostly doing a holding job in this game up until today. Shami bowled beautifully today. We got to improve on our spinners taking 4-5 wickets in the second innings. On a Day 5 pitch things happens quicker (wickets falling). It should be like that, it’s perfect like that (the pitch playing up and down). We got to move on from this and get ready for the next Test.”

Well, it would be interesting to see how things would turn out for South Africa in the upcoming game. Most probably, they would bring a few changes to their bowling department for the second Test.
