Rohit Sharma Becomes First Indian Male Cricketer To Play 100 T20I Games

It doesn’t matter whether it is the ODI or Test or T20I, Rohit Sharma doesn’t miss out breaking records to his name. In the latest, the flamboyant batsman has become the only male cricketer of India in T20I format of the game to play 100 T20I games.
Rohit Sharma on Thursday became the 2nd Indian cricketer to reach the milestone of featuring in 100 T20Is for the country. India women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur was the 1st Indian player to the landmark.

Among men, Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik is the only other cricketer to have played 100 matches in the shortest format (111). On the other hand, 10 women cricketers (including Kaur) have now featured in 100 or more T20I matches, with New Zealander Suzie Bates and Australia’s Ellyse Perry (both 111) leading the pack.

Rohit on Sunday reclaimed the top spot in the list of highest run-scorer in T20 internationals during the first T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Rohit has been trading the top spot with regular skipper Virat Kohli for some time now. However, Rohit, who was 7 runs behind Kohli going into the first T20I against Bangladesh, and he closed the gap in the first over of the match.
“I never thought I will play so many games, grateful for the opportunities I’ve got in the past. It has been a long journey since I made a debut. There have been ups and downs, I have understood my game through the experience. Very happy where I stand right now and it is great to know I’ll be walking out to play my 100th T20I for India,” Rohit said.

Coming to the match, it was Rohit Sharma, who won the toss, asked Bangladesh to bat first. Though Deepak Chahar bowled a decent first over, Khaleel Ahmed was once again thrashed by the Bangladesh batsmen. Despite a couple of economical overs, Bangladesh ended up with 54 runs in powerplay overs.
