Team India opener Rohit Sharma has justified his selection in the best way possible. The cricketer, who came into the series amidst a lot of speculations, registered his third century in fourth innings in this series. Rohit’s devastating form at the top-order has been one of the significant factors for India’s dominant run in the series.

The Mumbai opener has silenced his critics with consistent scores in the series. After scores of 176 and 127 in the first Test, Rohit had a poor outing in Pune getting out cheaply. But he bounced back and scored for India when the team needed the most.
Rohit Sharma added 250+ runs alongside Ajinkya Rahane for the fourth wicket to bail India out from 39 for three. He dominated throughout day one and two to bring his first double hundred in Test cricket. Rohit has been at his best in the series as he surpassed more than 500 runs in just four innings.

He scored 212 runs knock smashing 28 fours and six sixes as he toiled with the South African bowlers. Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar heaped praise on Rohit and said that the latter is now taking revenge on himself.
“Now, everyone will admit that Rohit Sharma was a great batsman and is a great batsman. He collected runs at will in limited-overs cricket. However, he realized that he was missing out on bigger action – Test cricket,” Akhtar said in a video.
“I think Rohit Sharma is now realising what he is capable off. He is batting in one-day style only. He is now taking revenge from his own self,” he added.

Furthermore, Shoaib Akhtar seemed confident that Rohit Sharma can easily break Steve Smith’s record of most runs in a Test series. He also feels that if Rohit would have played Test cricket in the last few years, the swashbuckling batsman could easily have got to almost 10000 runs.
“He now wants to make it up for the time he has lost by not playing Test cricket in the last five years. Had he played Test cricket, he would have easily scored 8000-9000 runs by now,” said Akhtar.
“If he continues playing in the form he is playing, he can easily break Steve Smith’s record and score thousand runs in a Test series,” Akhtar concluded.
