Swashbuckling India opener, Rohit Sharma is confident to come back to the Test squad following his omission from the 18-member squad for the five-match Test series against England.
Meanwhile, the selectors announced the squad for the first three Tests against Englands commencing on August 1. They have named a pretty strong squad with three spinners and five seamers.
Virat Kohli will slot back to lead the side after missing out on the Test against Afghanistan. However, the selectors have included uncapped Rishabh Pant as the second wicket-keeper. Dinesh Karthik will slot in as the first wicket-keeper after Wriddhiman Saha failed to make the cut.
Vice-captain Ajiknya Rahane and Karun Nair will fill the middle-order position while Hardik Pandya is the sole all-rounder. As usual, Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, and Shikhar Dhawan are the three openers in the side of 18 people.
Edgbaston will host the first Test and it will be an exciting encounter with India giving their all to win the series. They have a poor record the last time they visited this country and will be keen to overhaul it.
Rohit Sharma hopeful to come back
Meanwhile, there were many speculations with Rohit Sharma getting back his spot in the longer formats. He was spectacular in the limited-overs series with two unbeaten centuries.
However, the selectors went with Karun Nair, who was with India A side in England. Nair has looked in good touch scoring some runs in these challenging conditions which got him a nod ahead of Sharma.
However, Sharma is not losing hope and is confident that he will come back.
“Sun will rise again tomorrow,” he wrote on Twitter.
