Rohit Sharma made a spectacular start to his Test career as an opener against South Africa in Visakhapatnam. As Rohit strives for consistency in the next two matches, he has got the backing of his skipper Virat Kohli.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma came into the playing XI in place of KL Rahul, who grabbed the opportunity with both hands. The dressing room will breathe a sigh of relief after Rohit responded well, hitting twin centuries in his first Test as an opener. In the process, he became the first batsman to achieve the feat.

After playing a massive knock of 176 runs in the first innings, Rohit Sharma backed it up with another century in the second innings – both very significant in the context of the match. With the first-innings hundred, Rohit added record-breaking 317 runs partnering Mayank Agarwal.

And now with the backing of his skipper Virat Kohli and the management, Rohit will strive to keep up his good run in the following games. The second Test starts from October 10 (Thursday) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
