India opener Rohit Sharma will have a chance to create some personal milestones in the upcoming five-match ODI series against Australia. The ODIs, which will be India’s last assignment ahead of the World Cup, will get underway on March 2 in Hyderabad. Rohit Sharma has not delivered as per expectations in recent times. He had a decent tour of New Zealand where managed to showcase his excellency in bits and parts but could not quite live up to the expectations.

While Rohit scored two fifties in the ODI series, he scored 11, 7, and 2 in the other three games of the five-match series. In the subsequent T20I series, he scored 1, 50 and 38. His average show continued in the recently-concluded T20I series against Australia too. He played one game and managed to score just 5.

Well, Rohit will be looking to bounce back in the upcoming ODIs against a team he loves to play against. The right-handed batsman is third on the list of most run scorers in an India-Australia series, only behind batting greats Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting. So far, he has amassed 1,778 runs against the Aussies in the 50-over format.

Tendulkar scored 3077 runs from 71 matches at an average of 44.59 in India-Australia series. On the other hand,  Ponting amassed 2164 runs at an average of 40.07. Rohit has a chance to go past Ponting’s tally in the upcoming series as he is only 386 runs behind the Australia great.

The India vice-captain is also second on the list of most run scored in India-Australia ODIs at home. With 788 runs in 12 matches, he is only behind Tendulkar, who had scored 1561 runs from 30 matches. Skipper Virat Kohli is third in the list with 706 runs from 15 matches.

Rohit will also have a chance to break Tendulkar’s record for the most number of hundreds in India-Australia ODIs. While Tendulkar leads the list with 9 tons, Rohit has so far hit seven centuries against the team from down under. Rohit also needs just one more century to match Sachin Tendulkar’s record (4) of most centuries in India-Australia ODIs at home. In case, he manages to score two tons, he will break Tendulkar’s long-standing record.

India, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back in the ODI series after losing the two-match T20I series.
