The jersey number is special for every player and it won’t be wrong at all to state that the same number becomes synonymous with the player’s identity in the match. The reason for choosing a particular number to display on the jersey can be many.
Some players have personal meaning. Some took their favourite player’s number while some are just simply assigned a number. Well, India star Rohit Sharma, on Sunday, revealed the story behind his jersey number ’45’. The opening batsman was interacting with his fans on Twitter on the occasion of Friendship Day.
He held a question-answer session and was bombarded with several interesting questions. One of those questions were: ” What is the story behind your jersey number 45?”
In reply, Rohit Sharma said that there was no such story behind his number and it was his mother who selected the number for him. The India ODI and T20I vice-captain said that he didn’t argue with his mother over the jersey number and simply agreed with her choice.
“There’s no such story behind number 45. It’s just that my mom asked me to take that number and I didn’t argue. She just said it will be very lucky for you so I took the number,” said Rohit Sharma.

Well, the jersey number has indeed turned out to be very lucky for Rohit Sharma. The India batting superstar is one of the best batsmen in the world right now. Earlier this year, he was named as the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year after a stunning 2019 with the bat.
He was India’s standout performer in last year’s World Cup where the Men in Blue crashed out at the semifinal stage. The right-handed batsman had scored a record five tons and finished the competition as the top run-scorer.
