With less than a fortnight remaining before the FIFA World Cup 2018 gets underway in Russia, the whole world is gripped with the football fever.

The much-awaited global event will kick start in Russia on June 14. 32 teams will fight it out for the holy grail of the football in the tournament which will end on July 15.

Of the 32 teams taking part, 20 of those will be making back-to-back appearances, including reigning champions, Germany. There are also some teams who are appearing in the World Cup for the very first time such as Iceland and Panama.

Not surprisingly, there is excitement all around, as fans are busy gearing up to root for their favourite team.

Well, India star Rohit Sharma is also all geared up for the sporting extravaganza. And in a recent interview, he revealed, he would be cheering for Spain during the FIFA World Cup 2018.

“I will watch some action for sure. No hesitation, my favourite team is Spain,” said Rohit.

The 30-year old will be having some time off from his duties when the World Cup starts. India will take on Afghanistan in the one-off Test from June 14 in Bengaluru.

However, Rohit Sharma is not a part of the squad and can enjoy his time off by seeing Spain in the FIFA World Cup 2018.

Rohit will get back to action when India tours Ireland and England later in June. The Men in Blue will take on Ireland in two T20Is before departing for England for three T20Is and as many ODIs which will be followed by a Test series.

Rohit said England tour would help the team management plan for the next year’s World Cup.

“The England tour will be important to get used to the conditions and get the right players (involved) moving forward (to the World Cup). I am sure the captain and coach will have an eye on the right combination,” he said.

“India will look to finalise their combination for the World Cup in these ODIs they play in the lead-up to the mega event. The ODIs in England will give India’s batsmen the chance to play in conditions they need to acclimatize to for the World Cup.

“We will get a chance to get used to the conditions. Having said that most of the guys have played there before. For those going there for the first time, especially for our wrist-spinners, it will be an important tour,” he added.
