The ‘Hitman’, Rohit Sharma, not only shed his poor run of form with his dazzling century but also achieved a special feat during his knock.
During his 115 off just 126 at Port Elizabeth on Tuesday (February 13), Rohit smashed four huge sixes in his innings.
The much-needed knock was also comprised of eleven boundaries in addition to the four maximums. But the trademark slog over mid-on off Tabraiz Shamsi, which went many a mile into stands, would hold a special place in Rohit’s record books.
Arguably the most elegant six-hitter presently brought up his 265th maximum in the international fold.

With that shot over the long-on region which sailed past the rope, Rohit surpassed Master Blaster’s tally of 264 sixes in international circuit.
The Indian vice-captain now becomes the second highest six-hitter in the history of Indian cricket. The former Indian captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, remains the undisputed king of sixes with his tally of mind-boggling 338 sixes to his name.
The fourth place in the list of six-hitters is occupied by the prince of Indian cricket, Yuvraj Singh. The left-handed batter has 251 maximums to his name, better than the tally of Sourav Ganguly who registered 247 sixes.
Rohit on a six-hitting spree this season
It doesn’t stop here for Rohit Sharma. The Mumbai Indians captain also broke the record of most number sixes in a season. Incredibly, he also holds the record for the most number of sixes in a calendar year.

In the year 2017, Rohit Sharma smacked a staggering 65 sixes in the calendar year 2017. Now, the Indian opener broke the record for most number of maximums in a season with 57 hits over the ropes in the 2017-18 season.
Above all that, the innings at Port Elizabeth would hold a special place in Rohit Sharma’s career. The 115 came during a torrid time in the South African tour, which may also put to rest the criticism of him being only just a domestic bully.
