India star Rohit Sharma is all set to ply his trade for his state team Mumbai in the crucial quarterfinal clash against high-flying Bihar in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Days after guiding India to a record seventh Asia Cup title, Rohit Sharma is now gearing up to light up domestic circuit by turning up for Mumbai.

Ajit Agarkar, chief of Mumbai’s selection committee, confirmed the news in addition to stating that Shreyas Iyer will continue to lead the team.

“Yes, he will…we’ll pick the team on October 10. Rohit will play for us in one or two games. The team will be led by Shreyas Iyer, who captained Mumbai in their last two games in the league stage,” Agarkar was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

Rohit played his last domestic game for Mumbai in 2017. The right-hander had to turn to domestic cricket to get some much-needed match timing after a lengthy injury spell.

Right now, he is not a part of the Test team that is playing against West Indies. Rohit was dropped from the Test team after the tour of South Africa earlier this year and is yet to get a recall. He lost his place to Karun Nair for the Test against Afghanistan before being ignored for the five-match series against England as well.

Following the impressive performance in the Asia Cup, he was expected to return to the Test side. However, the selectors continued to snub him.

Rohit, meanwhile, can be joined by another high-profile name in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.  As per reports, Shikhar Dhawan can also play a game or two for Gautam Gambhir-led Delhi.

Both Rohit and Dhawan are likely to return to the Indian team for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against West Indies.
