Apart from Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma is the other Indian cricketer who has been playing non-stop cricket this year. While Kohli has been rested this year twice, Rohit Sharma is yet to get a break. The right-handed batsman has been part of every series that India have played this year. When Kohli was rested midway during the ODI series in New Zealand, Rohit had led the team in the remaining ODIs and the succeeding T20I series.

It was followed by the home series against Australia where India played two T20Is and five ODIs. Rohit Sharma then led Mumbai Indians to the IPL title, having missed just one game throughout the campaign. The limited-overs vice-captain then starred for India in the World Cup. He scored five centuries and finished the competition as the top run-scorer although India could not progress ahead of the semifinal.

Following the World Cup, he travelled to the Caribbeans for the full-fledged series. The star batsman played three ODIs and two T20Is. He then failed to find a spot in the playing eleven for the two-match Test series. But since then, Rohit Sharma has been playing non-stop cricket. He has opened in all the four Tests India have played so far in the ongoing season.

Rohit Sharma also played all the T20Is against South Africa and Bangladesh in addition to playing in the warm-up game against South Africans as well. He led the team against Bangladesh in the three-match T20I series as Kohli was given some much-needed rest.

Rohit Sharma to be rested:

Rohit Sharma, meanwhile, can be rested for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies, according to Mumbai Mirror. India will host West Indies next month for three ODIs and as many T20Is. Both the teams will play the three T20Is on December 6, 8 and 11. Following the T20Is, the two team will play three ODIs on December 15, 18 and 22.

In Rohit’s absence, KL Rahul will move up in the batting order while one of Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal is likely to get a chance again. Gill had made his ODI debut earlier this year on the tour of New Zealand and has not earned any recall since then. On the other hand, Mayank earned his maiden call-up during the World Cup when he replaced an injured Vijay Shankar but could not make his debut.
