Former India batsman Yuvraj Singh has expressed his surprise over Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) decision to release Chris Lynn ahead of the auction for the next season. Yuvraj Singh’s comment came after Lynn played a whirlwind knock for Maratha Arabians against Team Abu Dhabi in the ongoing Abu Dhabi T10. The hard-hitting batsman blasted 91 runs from just 30 balls, just days after being released by KKR.

Lynn’s 91-run knock is now the highest individual score in this format as he surpassed Alex Hales’ 87* (32) in 2018. He was in his elements right from the word go and did not spare anyone as it rained sixes and fours. He eventually finished his knock with nine fours and seven sixes. Riding on Lynn’s stunning knock, Maratha Arabians were able to post an impressive score of 138 for the loss of two wickets in the allotted 10 overs.

KKR’s decision of not retaining Lynn was definitely a surprising one. He is not only one of the most in-demand T20 batsmen across the world but had also done well for the franchise in the last two years. Lynn, in fact, was one of the batting mainstays for the two-time IPL winners in the last couple of seasons.

In 2018, he scored 491 runs with the help of 3 fifties at a strike-rate of more than 130, helping the Knight Riders make it to the playoffs. Earlier this year, he was one of Knight Riders’ most consistent batsmen, scoring 405 runs in 13 games with the help of 4 fifties. He scored at a decent average of more than 31 and scored his runs at a strike-rate of nearly 140.

Yuvraj Singh baffled:

Unsurprisingly, Yuvraj Singh was baffled to see KKR releasing Lynn and he made sure to make the franchise aware of their mistake. Speaking at the end of the match, the Maratha Arabians star lavished praise on Lynn before saying expressing his surprise over KKR’s decision. He also said that releasing Lynn was a bad call.

“Chris was outstanding today, unbelievable hits. He’s someone I’ve seen in the IPL. He has given some great starts for KKR. I really don’t understand how they did not retain him. I think that’s a bad call. Must send SRK (Shah Rukh Khan) a message on that. He was really outstanding today. It was great to see him bat like that,” said the World Cup-winner.
