Mumbai Indians IPL 2018 Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma has thanked all those players who have now been released or sold to other franchises to play ahead of the IPL 2018.

Mumbai Indians skipper, Rohit Sharma is surely a happy man, as the IPL franchise roped in some big names during the two-day auction in Bangalore.

Sharma, who has been one of the biggest assets for the Mumbai side in the action-packed T20 tournament sent out a tribute to all those players who have now parted ways with the Mumbai team, joining different franchises for this edition of the IPL.

The Rohit-led side has lifted the coveted IPL trophy thrice and had their hands on the Champions League T20 Cup on two occasions. Clearly, being one of the best franchises in the IPL, Mumbai boosted a great line-up over the years, with the likes of Lasith Malinga, Mitchell Johnson, Harbhajan Singh, Ambati Rayudu strengthening the unit.

This time around though, the players mentioned above will not be seen in the signature blue outfit.

Rohit’s tribute to his former teammates

The skipper shared a collage of ex-Mumbai Indians players on the micro-blogging site with a caption –

“Will miss this super fun and talented bunch, big thanks to all you guys for putting up a great effort and contributing towards the team’s success. I wish you the best going forward.”

Their coach, former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene counts the positives, as the side look to perform this season too. Speaking to The Hindu, the coach said the auction went a bit risky, as they had certain plans for certain players.

“We had a plan. It was a bit risky, but I think we executed it quite well. Earlier on, it was a frantic (period), a lot of people went for a lot of players. We knew we were not in the market at that prices, so we pulled out. Obviously, everyone knew that we would going to RTM for Krunal (Pandya). He came in the 10th set (ninth), so we had to have money.” he said.
