For the first time in the history of Indian Premier League, Harbhajan Singh will not be seen donning the famous blue jersey of Mumbai Indians. The veteran off-spinner was with the Mumbai-based franchise since the inaugural season in 2008 before being released this year which brought an end to the highly successful ten-year association between the player and the team.

One of the most integral parts of Mumbai Indians for the first decade of the IPL, Harbhajan played an integral role in their triumphs over the years. During his time with Mumbai Indians, the 37-year old won three IPL titles and two now-defunct Champions League T20 titles. He was also the captain of the side when it lifted its first Champions League title in 2011.

However, the franchise decided to end its association with the off-spinner as the World Cup-winning bowler is looking like a pale shadow of his former self in recent times. Last year, he had failed to perform as per expectations and also warmed the bench on several occasions. Overall, he played 11 matches and managed to pick up just eight wickets with modest return with the bat.

Harbhajan will now ply his trade for Chennai Super Kings after being bought by the two-time champions at his base price of Rs 2 Crore. This was only the second time the Punjab-born star was in the auction as Mumbai Indians retained him on previous two occasions and the Super Kings did not let go the opportunity of signing up the star spinner.

Meanwhile, with his decade-long association with Mumbai Indians coming to an end, Harbhajan took to Twitter to thank the franchise and wished them luck for the upcoming season.

“Thank you @mipaltan for a wonderful & memorable 10 yrs…it was great playing for you…all the best going forward for IPL 2018 …?,” he wrote.
