The India vs Afghanistan 2nd T20I is being played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. Shreyas Iyer’s side has already taken a 1-0 lead in the series after winning the first match last Sunday at the same venue. During the match’s first over of the first innings, Jasprit Bumrah bowled a maiden over and achieved a new milestone.
Afghanistan has been hosting India for the first time, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave the green light to the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) to host the match in India due to diplomatic tensions in their country, which have barred them from hosting matches in their country. They are playing a three-match T20I series.
Jasprit Bumrah achieves new milestone
Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first, as Jasprit Bumrah, who returned to the side in the first game after an injury setback, bowled well. In the second game, he had yet another excellent start as he bowled a maiden over, which is nowadays a rarity in T20I cricket as the game has been shifted towards the batters.
After bowling the maiden over, Jasprit Bumrah became the bowler with the most maiden overs in T20I history among full member nations. He was previously tied with Zimbabwe National Cricket Team pacer Richard Ngarava, who bowled 12 maiden overs in full member T20I matches; with Bumrah’s maiden over in the second game, he now has 13 maiden overs bowled in the shortest format of the game.
Jasprit Bumrah now has 350 T20 Wickets
Bumrah, who missed out in the England series and then the Sri Lanka Test series, came back in the T20I series against Afghanistan and bowled well as he picked one wicket, giving out just 26 runs in the match in his four overs. In that game as well, he achieved one milestone became only the third Indian bowler to pick 350 T20 wickets.
He achieved the milestone after picking up the wicket of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who was dismissed for a duck in the very first over of the game, and the Indian speedster joined Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal, who previously achieved this milestone. The 32-year-old speedster has looked lethal since his comeback to the side and would like to stay fit throughout, as the Asian Games is also coming up.
